Year ventured down to the field for our history lesson this morning. We wanted to create a timeline showing the development of the city of Lancaster, from its Roman origins to the twentieth century.  Our timeline was far too long to fit into the classroom, but we had plenty of room on the field. As we added some of the significant buildings to our timeline, we could clearly see how the city gradually expanded from what we now call “Castle Hill” and that much of this happened during the Georgian and Victorian times. We thought about why the town expanded so much during these periods, and used our knowledge of Lancaster’s involvement in the slave trade to explain this.
